Submissions for 2022 will open on Monday, 8 Nov 2021

 What is the Rubber Duck Awards? 

The Rubber Duck Awards is a competition for educators and ākonga, tamariki, and rangatahi of Canterbury to tell stories through game design.

The competition is best suited for Year Levels 5-13.

NZ Curriculum

Support aligned with the revised Technology Learning Area, Digital Technologies curriculum content. With an opportunity to give mana to Designing and Developing Digital Outcomes, and Computational Thinking for Digital Technologies.

Competition Concept

Round 1 concept: Kaitiakitanga
Designing and developing a game to promote kaitiakitanga (guardianship)


The professional development will be delivered in English Medium, but inclusive to all. Games designed for the competition can be designed in any language the the designers identify with. Te Ao Māori values will be woven through delivery of content, and support materials.
